For everything there is a season and a reason under heaven

not that the title of the this piece has much to do with anything that i'm going to write- it's just been on my mind. its found in Ecclesiastes 3.

i had a really good day today, just down-right, wholesome good.

i went to bed last night at 2:30 after proof reading beni's paper on john stuart mill, during which all i could think about was how boring a writer he is. he's a good writer, he's just boring, i'd much rather sit down with rohinton mistry or arundati roy- okay, yeah, they're real writers not political theorists. i thought i'd be tired when i got up, but i really wasn't and i've said it before and i'll say it again i am not a morning person- and oddly today i got up at 9 with little hesitation.

i went to best buy this morning to return the internet making kit for my laptop (see entry "Compaq Presario 1692")- where i was enthralled by the newest laptops and established a small inferiority complex as i went back to the car where my laptop from the 1600s sat.

the weirdest thing happened at lunch today. i got to campus at around 12 and class starts at 2 so i was sitting doing some readings when i suddenly started thinking about this friend i hadn't seen in a few days and 5 minutes later there she is. after she left i thought it would be real funny if i thought about someone else and they showed up- in retrospect i should have thought along the general notions of a future husband- then pryia popped into my mind, and again 5 mins later she shows up. it was definitely a weird moment.

now the highlight of the day: my mom told me yesterday that we'd be having an old friend of my dad's over for dinner tonight, and i said okay and didn't think much more of it. i didn't bother to ask much about our guests, besides the "when are they coming", which is quite unusual for me, because when an annoncement comes that we're going to see someone or they're coming to our place i ask questions about everything, enough to make a 15 page briefing book about the people: "who are they" "how do you know them" "when's the last time you saw them" "how many people are coming" "do they have any kids, if so how, old" "how old are the people who are coming" "are we related to them".... but none of that this time.

so our guests arrive, and right off the bat they seemed so nice and... lovely- to put it simply. a father, mother, son and daughter-in-law. they were just so sweet. they asked the typical questions and their response to my answers was different than the usual. when i told them i was studying political science at UBC they seemed interested and acknowledged my response to their question rather than doing the typical brown thing: ask and then move back the conversation they were having with my parents before i interrupted.

dinner was great, we talked about india, it's beauty, culture, people, languages, the contrasts and diversities of the one country- a topic which will never bore me. Rosina (i'm not sure of the spelling) told us about their (her and Salman's) recent visit of the Russel Peters show- we laughed, and during the whole dinner there was none of that awkward adult business and family oriented boring discussion.

they asked what i wanted "to pursue", and i said law. as it turns out salman is a lawyer and offered to help me in sorting out how to get into law school. it was just last saturday i was telling the youth at deeper walk that God opens doors for you and puts people and introduces you to them when you pursue the future He has for you. before they left salman gave me his card telling me to be sure to email him. i think i should look into getting a rolodex. God will never cease to amaze me.

conclusions of the day- on my to-do-list: watch a play in the near future.
