Anything but studying....
1. it's now reading break- a whole week to catch up on readings, prepare for assignments and study for midterms... yeah...riiight... monday's nearly done and i've read a total of 15 pages, gone over two lectures, and organized my desk- of the three, i paid the most attention to organizing my desk- and over that it was really windy outside and all i could think about was the tree in front of our house falling over crushing the house. i wondered if i'd survive if the tree fell, if the house would support a 100m+ tree (and if that was included in the insurance), and if it crushed my car, would i get the new 2006 jetta instead of a 2005. i promise though i'm going to go finish my reading for this class as soon as i finish this post.
2. valentines day is quickly approaching.... wait... it's tomorrow.... not that it means anything to me and not that i particularly care. i'm not anti-valentine's day, i love the candy, especially those pastel hearts- i ate one today that said "turtle doves"- when did the messages become abstract? what would you do if you're valentine/person/other half/love of your life... didn't know what turtle doves are or their significance, you'd have to degrade yourself to explaining the meaning of a candy heart.
getting off topic as usual (and not wanting to go do work, so i let myself ramble), all i hear on Chrisitain radio stations is "purity talks" and "how do you know if you're ready for marriage", "how do Christians date?" and blah blah blah blah blah. on the news: "men spend $5,000 for 1 dozen valentines day roses fresh from... (some small city in Europe)". in the papers "couple celebrate 70th valentines day together"- well that's great for them, and next time, why don't you write about how he survived his wife's 700th botched meatloaf recipe? and everything's red and pink too and trimmed with white doilie lace... why??
i can't get over how much money people spend at this time too, husbands and boyfriends trying to buy the right piece of jewellery to make up for all the ills they've said and done wrong between last valentines day and now, wives (and let's face it a lot of girlfriends too) trying the find the most revealing piece of "mmhmm" to reward their man for apologizing with gold and diamonds and insanely priced roses.
the roses part bugs me the most- how can you tell if they were $150 or $10?? you can't, you know why, because you don' t really care, because "it's the thought that counts", and unless that "thought" still has a price tag on it you wouldn't know if he stole them from his mom's garden.
therefore, in conclusion, valentines day is but another excuse for consumers to pay twice the price of anything and everything, me to eat those pastel hearts till i get sick, and to write without intention meaning or depth.
3. so i watched The Godfather partII again. Question: did micheal think that tom was in on a plot against him, is that why he wouldn't tell him anything? and with the heads of the 4 families dead, why didn't micheal just stay in NY? would it be that difficult to muscle their remnants of the families to join the Corleones? final note: micheal he should have married an italian.
4. i can't wait for summer, i bought my flip flops, got my eye on a few pieces i want to get for the summer, and i am ready for sun, heat, and fair food
5. i like how Locke approaches the idea of reason and freedom, once a child grows to have reason and is able to use it, it becomes free. yes it contradicts the malayalee parent's idea of freedom, "you can be free to do what ever you want when you get married", but i prefer Locke nontheless.
but honestly, i've been granted a greater freedom by a greater being, for which i am thankful for daily.
