A Borrowed Poem

A Lullaby

Sing me a lullaby…sing me to sleep
Sing me a lullaby…where your words are my dream
Fly me away…where my eyes can falter
Away from humanity…just give me peace…that’s all

I want to know…beyond the shadows of doubt
I want to taste…more than just an illicit flavor
Heavenly…food from above
Nurturing my soul and feeding my spirit

I’m stuck in the moment…waiting for time to pass
Just keeping my head down…listening
To my heart beating a little more fast

Can't Sleep

1. it turned out to be a really nice day, it was sunny and bright, cold yes, but it's January, besides isn't a bit of cold good for the blood or lungs or something on the inside?

2. i laughed so hard today, at lunch with farz, sammy and ritz- and then at break with farz, sammy, navi and beni: talking about nothing laughing at everything and disturbing those who insist on studying in a public place

3. i'm told or it was suggested/implied that people don't read my "long" posts- to that i say (insert stuck out tongue here)- i write for me, and those willing to read; thank you to those who do take time out of their day to read my "long" posts even though my friends to whom i give rides to, buy food for, spend time with, listen complain worry and whine, and let them steal all my stuff from stationary to umbrellas, don't take the time to read a dear friend's post.

4. my mom's in this phase where whenever she see's me she says "what's up"- which comes out sounding like "vhat's up"

5. my dad thinks he's a comedian- he repeats himself about 4 times when we laugh at something he says

6. i tyna vayalilkollattu promise never to speak think discuss breathe or complain about latin for as long as i shall live, if i pass latin this year. audive me!

7. did you hear about the snake that was fed a live hamster and ended up befriending it? - i personally think they should have fed the snake and the hamster to a hawk

8. road rules: the left lane is the fast lane and the right lane is the slow lane- if you can't figure this out- get off the road

9. i had to order a coffee from a heavy metal/biker looking guy , 250lbs, with a silver 1/4" ring hanging from his ear with tatoos and a goatee- he was especially intimidating in his bright green starbucks apron holding a coffe cup repeating my order to me "that's a grande no-fat no foam hazelnut latte?"

10. do you ever catch yourself thinking about something really funny while you're walking by yourself in a crowded area and you really want to laugh but can't for fear that people may think you're wierd? Russel Peters: Tup-Sum-Bong

My Grandma's Gospel

when i was little my grandparents lived with us. i loved having them around all the time and i remember my grandma coming to pick me up from school and we'd walk home together and until about 6/7, when my mom would come home, it would be just me my sister and my grandma. tracy would usually be playing with her toys or watching a recycled episode of a kid's show, and i would either be helping my grandma in the kitchen or sitting on a chair watching her. of the "conversations" i remember having with her, she'd always tell me about God's love and how Jesus died on the cross for my sins, and i should always love him because he loves me and died for me. whatever my little 5 year old mind could grasp of that, it did.
amidst those conversations she'd teach me old hymns she learned as a girl and loved. from her i learned "Jesus loves me", "Jesus loves the little Children", "Amazing Grace", and my favourite "What a friend we have in Jesus". I couldn't understand the words then, but recently i've begun to fully understand what those words mean and just how wonderful they are, and how important a message it was for my grandmother to pass it on to me.

What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a priviledge to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and tempations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
Take it to the Lord in prayer

Are we weak and heavy laden?
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Saviour still our refuge;
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In his arms he'll take and shield thee;
Thou wilt find a solace there.

Weekend Update

1. i spent my last 3 days at UBC's Model UN (MUN) conference. it was awesome, i got back home a few hours ago and moved to taking a nap, that motion did not meet quorum, and subsequently did not pass.
It was a weekend of debates, drafting resoulutions, and making motions. it was incredibly fun, perhaps not the funnest weekend of all weekends, but definitely the most productively fun.
Our 4 member delegation represented the Republic of Ghana and was composed entirely of members from UBC. Each person was admited to one of either: General Assembly 1, General Assembly 3, African Union, or Peace Building Commission. I represented Ghana in the Peace Building Commission- a body formed by and responsible to the UN Security Council that came into existance as of a UN meeting held in December 2005, thus the meeting at UBC MUN was the first either real or simulated- the minutes, reports and resoulutions passed at this meeting will be sent to the Peace and Security division of Foreign Affairs Canada to be reviewed and kept in record. (very exiciting)
We passed a total of 3 resoultions all of which were centered around the subject matter of Haiti- addressing the economic, social and political instablility that is currently going on within its borders. In liu of upcoming elections a resolution was passed to aid the interim government in carrying out those elections and calling for the support by the international community to offer it's support to ensure these elections follow through on the proposed dates. The other resolutions address installing security forces within Haiti in conjunction with the democratic government that results from the nearing elections needs for such security to make way for the clauses of the third resolution which calls for economic and social development after political stability is established.
the last two resolutions were proposed, presented, voted on and passed in a 2 hour time-frame that saw the haste of proceedings but the cooperation of all delegates.
if you've survived reading all this i congratulate you as only IR and poli sci geeks would only find this information even vaguely enticing.

2. a diplomat: a person who can tell you to go to hell in such a way that you actually look forward to making the trip- Caskie Stinett, Out of the Red, 1960

3. "The air was thick with quips, the ripostoes, the sallies, the jibes, the puns, like showers of arrows at the Battle of Little Big Horn, and as always in the company of witty people, never was there a joke attempted or told" - A Monk Swimming, Malacy McCourt

4. attended exodus worship nite on friday. a small gathering, but enjoyable

5. loved driving into downtown Vancouver every morning- drove in as the sun rose and then drove out as the sun set- i love it here, i would not move, not even for a rich boyfriend- i look forward to the day when i can do it every morning

6. i am in desperate need of having to do something mind-numbing, go shopping, play billiards, bowling, something- my mind is so overwhelmed with information i need to let it ooze out of my ear

7. i need to go lay down...i feel my head floating away from my body... please excuse my absence.

Random Things

1.my latest interest: the Ferrari

the GG50 at the Detroit Car Show

2. I like Lifehouse's lyrics, their music could lull me to sleep

3. boring people bore me- tell me something anything, make it up, i don't care, just don't let me get bored, make me laugh, make me smile, say something

4. i can't understand people who live in vancouver but don't like the rain. i can understand how it can be annoying and gross to a person who uses transit, but all in all, you have to say vancouver rain is a beautiful sort of thing

5. i've spent as much money on books as i could make selling one of my kidney's on the black market- anyone looking, i'm fairly healthy- i have 1.5 more years left and that many more books (ahaha)

6. i'm going to GenUnleashed, very much excited and very much looking forward to it

7. i want a closet full of shoes, stilettos, pumps, sandals, sling-backs, peek-a-boo's, mary-janes, flats, kitten heels, and sneakers, converse, nike, lacoste, adiddas, jimmy choos, christian louboutin, prada, and the infamous manolo

Evening Out etc.

1. went out to dinner at Milestones with FOU & Co. last night. it was so much fun. why is it so rare that we all get together at one time in one place? it was worth it. so many laughs- at one point we had the whole restaurant staring at us- we were the only birthday group actually having fun. had great service, good food, and the best company.
as we drove into the heart of downtown vancouver my heart leaped and i lost feeling in my knees, i was in love, the city is so beautiful at night i could stand in the middle of it and never want to leave.
on the way back i was thinking about the day when we could go out at 9:30 and not have to be home by 10. when FOU & Co. can call each other up at 10 and say- "you wanna do something?". ahh the freedom. i had to make an agreement with my parents, leave at 6 to be back by 10:30- yeah okay it's kinda reasonable, but puh-lease i never go out, i never really want to go out, and when i do i'd like to stay out a bit longer- no point arguing though, living under their house, eating their food, and studying with their money. i would have liked to go to a lounge, but didn't want to get anything, just wanted to sit on plush couches.
okay FOU i've given in, one day we shall go to a club, a nice one, with good music, and good service, nothing ugly- can't we just go to a jazz club??
i had a lot of fun... now i'm just looking forward to that time that comes with freedom.

2. when asked what Corleone i would be, i had to answer Sonny, i would have liked to say Micheal, but that is way to revered and respected a position to even aspire to. besides, i have Sonny's anger, and if some sleeze was beating up on my little sister- yeah i'd beat him on the street with a trash can lid and anything else i could find. but i'd like to think i have Tom's patience and logical reasoning talent- but he's not REALLY a Corleone. As for Don Vito, no one can be the Don or even think of themselves close to his status.

3. UBC's annual Model UN begins this week- i'm a part of the delegation from the Republic of Ghana. i'm so excited, to topic is "HAITI". call me a poli sci geek, but i'm looking forward to all the discussions about peacekeeping, installing peaceful and effective government, development, sustainability, economic growth, and productivity. oooh i'm blushing just thinking about it.

A Sudden Sweet Memory

K-3 i attended a private school in surrey, on the property of the school was a "forest". they had planted, landscaped and grown it in a certain way so that it was reasonably open and children could play within it. i remember running out to the forest with my friends on the first recess of the week and claiming an area as ours to build our fort and so we could play house there for the rest of the week. and every recess and every lunch we played house and built a fort out of stray logs and branches. my friends and i would look to each other before recess and lunch, with five minutes to the bell knowing that in five minutes we could run out of the classroom and play in that forest community that we built. fridays at lunch we would play out our last scene of house with a saddened impression, knowing that we would lose our spot by the end of school.

i was really young and in my memory that forest really scared me. i was afraid of what would pop out from under the bushes and sneak out from under a log, fall from a tree and jump out from behind a rock. but when ever i was really scared or was left alone for too long i would go to parts of the forest where the sunlight would shine down in rays to form irregular sun shapes on the forest floor, i would stand in that ray, and look up knowing that: i wasn't alone, and it wasn't really as dark as the forest illusioned it to be, the forest wasn't that tall and the sky was taller.
